Welcome to Bethlehem Presbyterian

Rooted in Faith. Growing in Community. Serving with Love.

At Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, we believe church is more than a building – it’s a family. Since the early 1800’s, our congregation has stood as a beacon of worship, fellowship, and service in the Fairview–Monroe community. Though small in number, we are mighty in heart, committed to loving God, loving people, and serving well.

Whether you are new to the area, exploring faith, returning after time away, or simply looking for a church that feels like home, we’re grateful you’re here. You are welcome – just as you are.

Our Story

Bethlehem Presbyterian Church has a long and meaningful history. We began as Union Church between 1810–1832, later becoming Bethlehem as the surrounding community grew. We have moved several times but always stayed in the Fairview community. For over two centuries, our congregation has endured hardships, celebrated milestones, and remained a place where faith is nurtured and service is lived out.

Today, we continue that legacy. We are in the midst of a multi-phase Capital Improvement Campaign, preserving and restoring our historic campus so that it remains a place of worship, education, and community care for generations to come.

In late 2025, WSOC-TV will feature our Senior Supper Program, highlighting the tremendous impact a small congregation can have when it faithfully serves its neighbors. This ministry continues to grow, offering meals, friendship, and care to seniors throughout our community — an outreach we’re incredibly humbled to share.

Like every good story, ours includes a few unforgettable moments — including the time more than 100 years of church records are thought to have been lost when a buggy overturned at the creek just south of our original site. High waters swept the documents away, and our written history with them. (We still say: if a woman had been driving the buggy, those records would be dry, intact, and filed to this very day.)

Our story is one of perseverance, generosity, and God’s unwavering faithfulness.

We are also actively updating our full History page. Thank you for your patience as we work to tell our story well — and tell it truthfully.

Our Beliefs. Our Denomination.

Our beliefs are based on the teachings of the Bible, and the practices of the early Christian Church.

We believe that we are part of the universal Church of Jesus Christ, and that the Church is to be ruled on earth, under the leadership of Jesus Christ by representative form of government.

Our theology is based on the idea that Christian faith and life are not rigid, but are always being reformed by God’s Word. Further, we believe that God chooses to be active in word and deed in the world in which we live, and that every person is called to be responsive in everything to the will and the activity of God.

We believe that Jesus of Nazareth was God incarnate (in human flesh), and that he came to earth to reveal God to us.

We believe that by his death our forgiveness was achieved, and that by his resurrection the power of God over death was displayed once and for all.

We believe that God created the universe, and that God will heal and redeem the universe.

We believe that we are called to demonstrate the love of God to the world, and in every way to display our trust in God.
